falu red
A Swedish term for a deep red paint made famous for its use on wooden cottages and barns. The traditional color became popular due to its effectiveness at preserving wood. in the early 16th and 17th centuries it was a popular color for Swedish mansions. With wood being the primary building material Falu Red kept growing in popularity until authorities in the cities started opposing the use of the paint. However in the 19th century it surged to popularity once again this time in the countryside with many farmers electing to paint their barns to preserve the wood. Falu Red remains popular and is still widely used in the Swedish countryside.
