Etymology: Greek anamimneskein, to remember.

2a. Preparatory case history information.

2b. Entire case history as recalled by the patient.

3. Philosophy: memory of past incarnations, a term to imply a memory loss.

4. Religion: remembrance of a sacrifice, a term to imply repetitiveness.

Linguistically, the term is most dubious in senses 2a and 2b, as implying a memory of future events; please compare case history, medical record.
