solar roadway

A massive and decentralized energy farm made from the nation's highways by sticking solar panels to them. The solar panels are designed to be interlocking hexagonal segments which are covered with toughened and textured glass capable of withstanding heavy traffic load. Beneath the glass, solar panels, a series of LED lights and heating devices are installed to generate energy all year round and to keep the ice and snow off the hardware in winter. The lights can also be used to replace conventional traffic lights, offering continuously updating safety warnings and guide lines that can adapt to traffic conditions on the fly. A trench running down one side of the road holds the power cables and can serve as the backbone for a potential new high-speed data network.

Implemented properly, a nationwide solar roadway system can serve as a powerful decentralized power grid guaranteeing energy independence and provide near-limitless power for eclectic vehicles and homes.
