9:41 AM

In advertisements for the iPhones and iPads, people often notice the clock on the device's home page is always set to 9:41 AM. What's going on? Technically, it can be anything such as 8:15 AM or 4:50 PM depending on when the actual screenshot just happens to be taken. It turns out there is a significance with 9:41. When Steve Jobs delivered his keynote speech on January 9, 2007 to introduce the original iPhone to the world, it happened at 9:41 AM. Since then it has become an Apple tradition to use 9:41 as the device time in all marketing materials. Since all subsequent keynotes for important new product launches are expected to run at about the same time, it's a technique to ensure the screenshots would match up with the time of the live presentation.
