Dashilar is a small street that can be described as both commercial and traditional, and that succeeding in making a name for itself in the capital. The street in itself houses the oldest drugstore of Beijing where can be found both traditional Chinese medicine and occidental drugs, as well as the most famous shoes fabricant that used to work for Mao's feet. If venturing further into this perpetually crowded street, you may also find the oldest cinema of Beijing as well as many traditional tea houses, without forgetting the numerous silk stores, all obviously being the cheapest ones of the street... This is thus in a word a constantly animated street that allowed the economic development of the surrounding area, as more and more hutongs are now competing around food and souvenirs shops.
