A Gulou Hipster is someone who spends most if not all his/her time in the hutong district of Gulou in Beijing. GH's usually live their lives studying Chinese or doing odd jobs here are there within the Gulou area. GH's often rent Hutong apartments in the area saying that "it gives them a real understanding of Beijing. Real China.".

Gulou Hipsters tend to move around Beijing using second hand retro style Chinese bicycles or the common hipster form of transport, the fix bike.

GH's spend much of their time relaxing in independently run bars or restaurants located deep within the Hutongs. These establishments are usually run by fellow GH's from foreign back grounds.
