Portugal national football team

The Portugal national football team represents Portugal in association football and is controlled by the Portuguese Football Federation, the governing body for football in Portugal. Portugal's home ground is the Estádio Nacional in Oeiras, and their head coach is Paulo Bento.

In 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying, Portugal finished second in the group behind Russia and had to enter a playoff. In a home-and-away playoff series against Sweden, Portugal won both matches, with a 4-2 aggregate score, to qualify for the 2014 World Cup. At the final draw, Portugal was drawn into Group G with the United States, Germany, and Ghana.

Their first match against the Germans became their worst ever defeat in a World Cup, succumbing to a 4-0 loss. The Quinas played with 10 men for almost an hour after a red card was shown to Pepe, for headbutting Germany's Thomas Muller in the 37th minute.
