cylinder escapement
Mechanism that transmits power to the balance, in order to make it oscillate. The teeth of the escape-wheel mesh direct¬ly with the balance staff, which is in the form of a hollow cylinder. The cylinder escapement was invented by the watchmaker George Graham in 1726. Due to insufficient accuracy it is no longer used and is found only in early watches.
