plastic surgery

Although medical alteration of the body tackles congenital problems and the results of accidents and violence, molding the body towards beauty stereotypes underpins plastic surgery’s gender and age configuration. Moreover, since most surgery is elective (uninsured), the field is associated with the wealth of both practitioners and clients. Yet, Americans undergo nearly 1 million such operations annually; females constitute 89 percent of all clients. While breast implants have been associated with severe hazards, they remain popular alongside face lifts; baby-boom males focus on abdomens and chests. Most plastic surgeons also are male, evoking a Pygmalion syndrome within the profession and its depictions.
