sluicing
Surface mining method which utilizes a sloping wooden trough or a ditch cut in hard gravel or rock as a channel, along which gold-bearing sediment is carried by a stream of water. Bars placed transversally along the bottom cause the water to eddy into small basins, so that the ore may settle and be collected.
