A teacher in every maintained school who is responsible for all the children identified as having special educational needs(sen).

Under the special educational needs code of practice, the special educational needs coordinator should play a key role, in partnership with head teacher and the governing body, in determinig the strategic development of sen policy and provision within the school.

The senco takes day-to-day resposability for the operations of the school´s sen policy and provides professional support and advice to colleagues, both in school and from other agencies, in order to ensure high quality teaching and learning for all children with sen.
