the application of Shari'a law in Somalia
The Shari'a Law is more often than not, heavily discriminatory toward women, allowing public stonings of women who have committed adultery for instance. What is more, if a woman is murdered, Sharia'a Law ensures that the perpetrator's family only has to pay half the sum they would have to pay if a man was murdered, demonstrating how women are undervalued and undermined.
What is more, the Shari'a Law in close link with the current situation of the legislation in the country ensures the persistence of the vulnerability of women. As a matter of fact, Shari'a inheritance laws state that women can only inherit half the amount inherited by men, which again, shows heavy inequalities between the genders in the country.
