The policy of ensuring that both parents, in particular absent fathers, contribute to the financial maintenance of their child or children.The child support act 1991 introduced radical changes in the area of children maintenance following relationship breakdown. The act introduced a standart formula to assess how much the absent parent should pay and established a new executive agency of the Department of social security, the child support agency (csa), to assess, collect and enforce these payments.
