High-definition TVs that use organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays instead of the conventional light-emitting diodes (LEDs) or liquid crystal displays (LCDs). OLED is a type of light emitting diode that is made of thin films of organic molecules. When electricity is applied to the diodes, they create light through a process called electrophosphorescence. Compared to conventional light-emitting diodes (LEDs) or liquid crystal displays (LCDs), OLEDs can provide brighter, crisper displays on electronic devices and use less power. OLED TVs are less than a quarter-inch thick and consume significantly less power.

Consumer electronics company LG Electronics will unveil the world’s largest OLED 3D TV at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January, 2012.
