stuffed cabbage (sarmale)

This dish has Turkish roots but the Romanians have perfected it and nowadays it is traditionally prepared for important celebrations such as Christmas or Easter.

Sarmale is a dish of grape, cabbage or chard leaves rolled around a filling usually based on minced meat, or a mixture of vegetables and rice.It is eaten with yogurt(or sour cream) and polenta(mamaliga).
