Mr. Macintosh

Mr. Macintosh is the name of the human figure drawing etched into the circuit board of the original Macintosh machines. The legend of Mr. Macintosh is still a mystery to most people today as they wonder if he is real? The story comes from folklore.org, a website filled with anecdotes about the development of Apple's original Macintosh computer, and the people who created it. Andy Hertzfeld, a designer for the Macintosh system software tells the story of Steve Jobs bursting into his office back in February 1982, with a "flash of inspiration." He came up with a wild idea of creating Mr. Macintosh.

Andy to Steve Jobs: "Mr. Macintosh is a mysterious little man who lives inside each Macintosh. He pops up every once in a while, when you least expect it, and then winks at you and disappears again. It will be so quick that you won't be sure if you saw him or not... One out of every thousand or two times that you pull down a menu, instead of the normal commands, you'll get Mr. Macintosh, leaning against the wall of the menu. He'll wave at you, then quickly disappear. You'll try to get him to come back, but you won't be able to."
