Somalia is largely considered to be one of the worst places on Earth for women. According to Nadia Sufi Abdi, the centre's human rights documentation officer, the country is a "woman's hell on Earth " since "no woman in Somalia is happy to be a woman because, from the cradle to the grave, a woman is a victim". However, only a few people is really aware of what is still happening today in Somalia. Here is therefore a general overview of gender issues in this country.
